About the YAC
MISSION
The Yorktown Athletic Club, Inc. is a self-funding, all volunteer, Not for Profit Corporation that provides organized youth sports programs for the social enjoyment of its members and our friends of the Yorktown Community. We offer both Recreational and Travel youth sport programs that are age appropriate and are designed for the full participation of team members. The YAC is an active member of the Positive Coaching Alliance and believes in “Honoring the Game”. The YAC stresses that “winning an athletic event” shall always be secondary to our goal, which is to help our children understand and develop true sportsmanship qualities, which include showing respect for both your teammates and opponents and the fun and challenge of competition.
- The YAC was established in 1948 and has been in existence for over 75 years. Today, the club consists of approximately 1,500 family members, and over 2.500 sport participants.
- The YAC offers to its members the following youth sports programs: Baseball, Basketball, Football, Wrestling, Boys and Girls Lacrosse, Girls Softball, Volleyball and Cheerleading.
- The YAC utilizes the fields and facilities maintained by the Yorktown Parks & Recreation Department and the Yorktown Central School District. While the YAC must abide by the policies and procedures of these entities, neither one is involved in the organization and/or administration of our sport programs.
- Volunteers run the YAC. The elected officers, board members, sports commissioners, division coordinators and coaches are all parents in volunteer positions. Please be respectful of the time and the energy they put into the club and help them when called upon.
- If you need to contact the YAC, please go to the “Contacts” section located on each webpage of the yacsports.com website and select the person or position most relevant to your information request. Please keep in mind that each of these positions is filled by parent volunteers and a response to your inquiry may not be immediate.
- Coaching and non-coaching volunteers are always needed to help run both the YAC and the individual sports programs. So please volunteer and get involved with the YAC, all of our kids will benefit.
- The YAC Board and its authorized subcommittees meet on a monthly basis. Please visit the YAC home page for additional information about how of you can get involved with the YAC Board related activities.
- Active YAC Member families are invited to attend our YAC general membership meetings a minimum of one time per year. At these meetings members can raise issues of concern and discuss ways to improve the club and our sport programs.
- The official web-site domain for the YAC is playyacsports.com Please visit the official YAC Home page to obtain more information about the club and for official YAC Policies and Procedures, as well as information about the sports programs that we offer.
